About the trip

Depart: 1100

Return: 1700

Location: Lochaline/Tobermory

Runs: August/September

Highlights: Manx Shearwater in high numbers, chance for other Shearwaters such as Sooty or Corey’s, Minke Whales, lots of sea birds, Harbour Porpoise, Common Dolphin

Restrictions: All based on our cabin RIB. It’s extremely comfortable, but the sea can get rough, so check conditions

We are really excited about this one! We’ve been working on a Small Isles Sea Safari for some time and here it is finally. We even bought some new engines for the boat especially so we have more power and less weight. This trip starts from Lochaline with a stop at Tobermory for pick up and then heads past Ardnamurchan Lighthouse to Eigg. We stop for a quick lunch at the cafe and then head out around Eigg to the huge Shearwater colony on Rum (housing a third of the world’s population). We then head round the Northern coast of Much and through the Cetacean rich waters between Northern Coll and Rum. We will then aim for a short stop at the Cairns of Coll and back through to Tobermory and to Lochaline.

Itinerary

leave Lochaline at 1100 from Lochaline ferry terminal – what3words: president.callers.skip

We then head to Tobermory for a comfort break and pick up at 1200 if you are joining us from there. From Tobermory we head out across the Northern coast of Mull and onwards to Eigg for lunch. Back to Tobermory for 1600 and docking in at Lochaline at 1700

The boat

Island Panther is a 10.5m Cabin RIB built by RedBay. It seats 10 (including us 2 crew) and is extremely comfortable in most seas. We will be inside whenever we are underway and will stop for the wildlife highlights so you have a chance to see from the rear deck.

Equipment required

Camera, waterproofs if the weather is inclement (though you can stay indoors throughout)

*Weather note: The weather needs to be good for us to do this trip. If it is rough, we are unlikely to see anything so won’t venture out. We may offer an alternative if conditions allow.
